Recycled CDs and DVDs and ink
A projected and mixed media installation that ponders how beautiful our new Pacific island of plastic will be.
This is an expandable site specific art installation that includes the projection of waves rolling down the area filled with CDs. This creates a wonderful array of reflected colors on the surrounding walls.
Around the area of CDs representing the shape of the Pacific Ocean, are drawn outlines of countries with information on how much plastic each one pours into the pacific from their shoreline. For example, according to research by Northeaster University, North Korea contributes more plastic into oceans than the whole of the United States. Offering some hope as well, information on countries such as New Zealand banning the manufacturing and sale of products containing microbead plastics is listed along with other government sponsored programs focused on recycling.
